Old Parliament House is situated between Parliament House and Lake Burley Griffin. It was initially built as a temporary parliament house; however, government stayed there from 1927 right up until 1988 when the new Parliament House was opened.

Designed by John Smith Murdoch, the first Commonwealth Government architect, he was asked to design a provisional building that would serve as the house of parliament until a more permenant one was constructed.
